The wait is over! The top 4 finalists of the first season of The Voice of the Philippines have been revealed Sunday night at the performance show in Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila, Pasay City.
Adding the coach’s scores and two rounds of public voting, the top 4 artists who advance to next week’s finals are Mitoy Yongting of team Lea, Janice Javier of team Apl, Myk Perez of team Bamboo, and Klarisse de Guzman of team Sarah.
It was a night full of brilliant performances which resulted to all coaches giving 55-45 scores to their two
semifinalists; letting the public vote decide who among the 8 semifinalists will advance to the final round of this hit TV talent search.
Even the public was having a hard time deciding who among the artists will advance to the finals. The public vote was also a close fight for all semifinalists.
Mitoy Yonting who powered his way through Laura Branigan’s “The Power of Love” won over the heavily favored ex-Kulay member, Rhada Tinsay, with a total vote of 108.78 to Rhada’s 91.23. Although Salonga gave Rhada a coach’s vote of 55, Mitoy managed to land a slot in the finals with a public vote of 63.73 to Rhada’s 36.27.
Rhada has to console herself with Lea’s comment of her version of The Beatles’ “Let it Be” saying, “That’s the best I’ve heard you. I don’t think anyone could have sung that song better.”
Team Apl’s Janice Javier was another story. She won the coach’s vote of 55 to Thor Dulay’s 45; and at the same time won the public vote of 57.85 to Thor’s 42.15.
Janice, who sung a soulful rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” moved to the finals with a total score of 112.85.
“Hallelujah! Oh my God, that was amazing, spectacular. I’m out of words right now,” apl.de.ap told Javier, after giving her a standing ovation.
Coach Bamboo on the other hand gave Myke Perez’s version of “Baby I love Your Way” a score of 55 points, to Paolo Onesa’s 45 points for his big band arrangement of Rivermaya’s “Elisi”.
The public voted otherwise. Perez garnered a public vote of 48.08; while Paolo got 51.92; but still Mike Perez advance to the finals with a total score of 103.08 to Paolo’s 96.92.
“You just became a showman tonight — the dynamics, nanligaw ka pa,” apl.de.ap told Perez, who dedicated his performance to Sarah Geronimo. “Nakikita ko na magkakaroon ka ng acoustic album in the future, at lahat makikinig at manunood.”
Despite dominating Twitter during Sunday’s show, Morissette Amon proved to be no match for De Guzman, who finished with a score of 118.39 with Geronimo giving her the edge with 55 points.
Geronimo also gave De Guzman a standing ovation for her performance of the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody,” and thanked her for joining the show. “Maraming salamat dahil pinatunayan mo na panahon mo na mag-shine. Salamat at lumaban ka,” she said.
But Amon also gave a well-praised performance for her version of Jessie J’s “Who You Are,” with apl.de.ap predicting that the “Camp Rock” theater actress is a “future star in the making.”
“You just have this nice angelic voice. Mananatili ka sa industriyang ito,” apl.de.ap told Amon.
Geronimo agreed with the Black Eyed Peas member. “Inexplicable talaga ‘yung galing mo. You are blessed dahil ‘yung stage presence mo iba talaga. You are a star whatever happens. And your star will shine continuously,” she told Amon.
