Hoping to compete at the 14th ISF World Softball Championship in Haarlem, Netherlands next year, the Blu Girls will fly to Taiwan this November to participate at the Asia women’s softball qualifying tournament slated in November 24-30, 2013.
The girls coached by Ana Santiago, will face powerhouse countries like China, Korea, Chinese Taipei and world softball defending champions, Japan in the weeklong competition to be held in Kaoshiung.
“We have to refine our games because the tournament is tough and our ultimate goal is to qualify to the World Softball next,” said Santiago.
Top two countries in this Asian qualifying tournament will given a slot at the main draw of the 14th World Softball Championship August next year.
“Hopefully, they would figure prominently and make the country proud,” said ASAPHIL official Jun Veloso.
Included in the team’s line-up are Raissa Bernardino, Sarah Agravante, Veronica Belleza, Karen Aribal and Annalie Benjamin.
The Blu Girls vowed to play their best and make up for the Blu Boys’ winless stint recently in the 16-team competition.
In the history of World Softball Championship, the Blu Girls only won a medal in 1970 (Japan), where they went home with a bronze medal, behind runner up USA and 1970 Champions, Japan.
