Zeshan_Rehman_Peace_CupPakistan sent strong warning as they debuted at the 2013 Peace Cup with a 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei Sunday night at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

Facing a team who stunned Philippine Azkals last Friday, Pakistan’s Zeshan Rehman struck an early goal in the 7th minute, the only goal of the match.

Rehman stayed composed inside the box to beat Pan Wei-chih on goal.

The Pakistanis then bungled a couple of golden opportunities to extend the lead, but Saddam Hussain was denied in the 13th minute, while Mohammad Ali also failed a golden attempt a minute before the stoppage time in the second half.

Wanting to bring home the Peace Cup trophy in their second stint of the competition, the Taiwanese fought hard for an equalizer but midfielder Lin Chang-lun’s ball went wide in the 32nd minute.

Pakistan’s win over Chinese Taipei boost their chance in going home with the 2013 Peace Cup trophy. They only need a draw against Philippine Azkals on Tuesday to win the title.

On the other hand, a win by Philippine Azkals against Pakistan on Tuesday via a 2 goal lead will enough for the Azkals to retain the Peace Cup trophy.

The crucial match between Philippine Azkals and Pakistan will be on Tuesday night, 7:000pm at Panaad Stadium, Bacolod City.
