Philippine Sports Commission is planning to organize an international beach volleyball competition next year featuring some of the world’s best teams in Philsports Arena, Pasig.
PSC chairman Richie Garcia said that they are planning for an eight-nation tournament wherein teams from Brazil, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and USA are being eyed for the tournament.
“January or February,” said Garcia when asked when are they planning to stage the tournament.
Although PSC is worried if a local team will do well in the tournament, they are still bend of entering a team from the country.
“We’d like to have a local team but it has to be a very competent team because they’ll be up against powerhouse teams,” said Garcia.
The plan is a great boost to Volleyball’s comeback in the international competition.
Just last month, the Philippine women’s indoor volleyball team, widely known as Power Pinyas, joined the 17th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship where they finished third.
