The first batch of Philippine SEA Games team bound for Myanmar will leave on December 3 with the country’s men’s water polo team kicking off Philippines’ campaign on December 5, while the wushu artists on December 6.
Some sports competitions are starting early since Myanmar SEA Games organizers has prepared long and hard to bring the biennial games on its turf for the first time in 44 years.
Among the sports that will start early are Boxing and basketball (men’s and women’s) on Dec. 8, while wrestling, women’s football and pencak silat will start on Dec. 9.
Sepak takraw, canoe-kayak and badminton are scheduled to start on December 10; the official SEA Games opening is salted on December 11 at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium in the Burmese capital of Nay Pyi Taw.
A total of 15 sports out of the 33 sports in this year’s SEA Games will start before the opening rites.
Other disciplines to be played before the opener are chinlone, men’s and women’s futsal, and floor ball, a demonstration sport.
Philippine team is set to participate in 26 sports events.
