Philippines’ last man standing at the 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championship bow out of contention after Mario Fernandez was defeated by Shiva Thapa Sunday afternoon at the Baluan Sholak Palace of Sports in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Fernandez who defeated Guyana’s Imran Khan in the first round, was defeated by fourth seed Thapa in a unanimous decision, 28-29, 27-30, 28-29.
With the defeat, none of the four Filipino boxers seeing action at the world championship this year advance to the third round of the competition.
Also defeated in the second round of the competition are Mark Barriga who was defeated by Cuban Yosbany Veitia Soto, and
Flyweight Roldan Boncales, beaten by North Korean Ri Chung also in a unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
Light Welterweight Dennis Galvan was defetead by Gaybatulla Gadzhiayliyev in the first round.
