Filipino-American singer Ellona Santiago advances to The X Factor USA top 12 after impressing the judges with her rendition of Brtiney Spears’ “Till The World Ends” Tuesday night (Wednesday morning in Manila).
Opening the show, 17 year old Santiago performed like a true diva at the center stage which impressed her coach Demi Lovato, who gave a standing ovation after her performance.
Judge Kelly Rowland said that she could not put into words how happy she was that Ellona opened the show, and that her performance was so magical.
“You were on fire and the fact that you were [dancing] and singing at the same time is so impressive. You are going to be one to watch in the competition. Demi, you cannot let her go,” she said.
Ellona also impressed Judge Paulina Rubio, who said that she loved very bit of Ellona’s performance.
“Wow, wow, wow! That was the best opening for this. This is the live show. That’s unbelievable. I loved you from the beginning until the end. Congratulations. Really a good job,” she said.
Judge Simon Cowell then recalled the moment last week when Lovato was so confused whether to put the young singer through or not.
“I could remember there was some indecision from Demi whether she’s going to put you through or not and I kind of feel responsible. I believed in you. I was right,” Simon said. “What I love about you, Ellona, is that you’re here to win it, not just to take part in a competition but to win it and go on to a solo record. If she’s one of my girls, I’d keep her,” Simon added.
On the other hand, Ellona’s coach, Demi Lovato, expressed how proud she is of the San Lorenzo, California student singer.
“I am so proud of you. I gave you a standing ovation. I don’t know if you saw it. You really, really kicked butt and I’m so proud you worked it and you were a true diva up there. You were amazing,” she said.
Ellona was the first to be saved among the four girls, advancing to the next round of competition at The X Factor USA.
Other contestants to join Santiago in the top 12 are Khaya Cohen, Rion Paige, Carlos Guevara, Carlito Olivera, Tim Olstad, Jeff Gutt, Rachel Potter, Lillie McCloud, Restless Road, Alex and Sierra and Sweet Suspense.
