Confusion mars Philippine Azkals Under 23 team’s participation in the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar next month as Philippines was included in the draw of the men’s football event.
Philippines was drawn in Group A along with Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Laos and Brunei.
Last month, Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission have already announced their decision of not including the men’s football in the Philippine SEA Games line-up this year.
But SEA Games organizers confirmed today with Goal dot Com website that Philippines is officially scheduled to join the Myanmar SEA Games.
They said that a Philippine official had witnessed the draw but did not indicate that the team had withdrawn from the tournament.
The organizers also alleged that a provisional 30-man squad list for the Philippines Men’s football team had been submitted. It is believed the PFF had submitted a squad list prior to the confirmation of their non-participation.
The official SEA Games fixtures have also been reportedly received by Philippine Football Federation (PFF) stating that Philippines is scheduled to play in Myanmar SEA Games.
