The Philippine Women’s National Basketball team, Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas faces reshuffling after their dismal performance at the 25th FIBA Asia Championships for Women in Bangkok, Thailand where the team finished 10th place, below fellow ASEAN countries Thailand, Malaysia and Indoensia.
The reshuffling of the team is also planned with hopes of still making it to the official Philippine team delegation to this year’s 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar after the split decision of the POC and PSC SEA Games Task Force.
POC 2nd Vice President and Philippine Chef de Mission Co. Jeff Tamayo wants to include Perlas ng Pilipinas to the team, but POC Chairman Tom Carrasco is not convinced after their performance at the FIBA Asia Championship where they may have beaten defending champion Thailand, but they bowed down to Malaysia and Indonesia women’s basketball teams.
Two veteran players are allegedly planned to be scratched out from the rooster, and will be replaced with two younger players from one of the prestigious league in the country.
Ma. Lalaine Flormata and Merenciana Arayi are the rumored veteran players to be replaced. Flormata is said to have recurring injury, while Arayi will now retire after being a part of the national team for many years.
The decision will be made public after their practice on Monday.
