The Philippine national women’s football team, widely known as Malditas, land in what is considered as the “Group of Death” after the draw last week for the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar next month.
The Malditas are bracketed in Group A along with defending champion Vietnam, host Myanmar, and Indonesia.
In Group B are Thailand 2009 runner-up Thailand, Malaysia, Laos and Timor Leste.
“I’m sure other SEA countries would cringe if they were in our group. But not us. Not the Malditas. We look at the parings, study the schedule, smile in anticipation and say……LET’S DO THIS! MALDITAS LABAN,” said national coach Ernest Nierras.
“We have a chance to beat 3 top 40 teams in FIFA, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar! I would not want it any other way!” Nierras added.
Maldita’s will start their SEA Games campaign in the group stage on December 10 against Myanmar, December 13 against Vietnam, and their last game will be on December 15 against Indonesia.
Top two teams in each bracket will advance to the semifinal round.
Semifinal matches are scheduled on December 18, while championship match is set on December 20.
All games will be played at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium, in Mandalay province of Myanmar.
