Marian Rivera’s endearing and feisty character at the Korean soap opera remake of “Temptation of Wife” earns her a nomination for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category at the Asian Television Awards 2013 which was announced yesterday by Television Asia Plus.
Rivera will fight it out with fellow Kapuso actress, Lorna Tolentino, who is also nominated in the same category for her portrayal as the publisher who had a relationship with her daughter’s boyfriend at GMA primetime series “Pahiram ng Sandali”.
Both Rivera and Tolentino vie for the best actress trophy along with Jade Chou (Falling, Taiwan); Debbis Goh (Mining Magnate, Malaysia); Kate Tsui Tsz-shan (Highs and Lows, Hong Kong); at Wen-Lin Fang (Go, Hula!, Taiwan).
Philippines earned 9 nominations this year wherein four are from performance or hosting, while 5 are for the programs.
GMA gets seven of the nominations, to ABS-CBN’s 2 nominations.
Other nominees are Kris Aquino for the Best Entertainment Presenter/Host category for her daily morning show, Kris TV; and Michael V. for the Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress category for his gag show, Bubble Gang.
Michael V gets nominated in this category almost every year, but he only managed to win in 2005 and 2006.
Both GMA’s 24 Oras and Saksi (Eye-Witness) are nominated in the Best News Programme category for their great coverage on typhoon Pablo; while GMA’s Reporter’s Notebook also earned nomination in the Best Current Affairs category, also for it’s coverage of typhoon Pablo.
Philippines is also nominated this year for the Best Natural History or Wildlife Programme with GMA’s Born Impact: When Wales Strand earning the nomination. While, perhaps the most watched TV competition, The X Factor Philippines has been nominated for the Best Reality Show category.
The 18th Asian Television Awards will have the awarding ceremony on December 5 at the Resorts World Sentosa, Compass Ballroom, Singapore.
