The Philippine national women’s softball team known as Blu Girls was off to a disappointing start in their campaign at the 11th Asian Women’s Softball Championships in Kaoshiung, Taiwan yesterday, after they were blanked by Chinese Taipei in their first match of the tournament.
Host Chinese Taipei grabbed the first game in the first minute, and took a 4-0 lead after two innings.
In the third inning, Chinese Taipei was unstoppable. The Chinese capitalized on Blu Girls’ shaky pitching and unstable game plan to lead 8-0, off to the 4th inning.
Blue Girls finally collected themselves in the 4th and 5th innings, allowing the Chinese to score only one run to end their first match with 0-9 scoreline.
This year’s edition of the Asian Softball Championship is parcitipated by only six countries; Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines and host Chinese Taipei.
Top three teams in the championship will be given a slot at next year’s World Softball Championship in Netherlands.
