After a victorious run in day three of the championship, the Philippine women’s softball team widely known as Blu Girls bowed down to Chinese Taipei anew to finish 4th in the 11th Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Kaoshiung, Taiwan; failing to qualify in the 2014 ISF Women’s World Championship in Netherlands.
Eyeing of getting back at Chinese Taipei who beat them 9-0 in the opening match, the Blu Girls were confident and focused in their do or die match against the Chinese, which is the deciding match for Asia’s third and last slot for the world championship.
The Pinay clouters fought tooth and nails to redeem themselves against the Chinese, but luck was not on their side as they were beaten, 9-2, in the deciding game.
The result was a big disappointment for the girls who came to Taiwan with a goal of qualifying for the world championship next year.
Their fourth place finish though is an improvement for their last Asian championship performance where they finished fifth.
Hong Kong ranks 6th, while Korea ranks 5th at this year’s championship, where final games will be played today.
Chinese Taipei will be playing against China, who was beaten by Japan, 4-0 in the other medal round match yesterday afternoon.
Looser in the Chinese Taipei and China match will bring home the bronze medal, while the winner will play against Japan for the championship trophy.
