First batch of Filipino athletes are scheduled to fly to Myanmar today for the 27th Southeast Asian Games slated on December 11-22.
Though the SEA Games opening is on December 11, several sports are set to start prior to the opening.
A total of 22 athletes and 15 officials are leaving today, which include athletes from wushu, wrestling and sailing.
Wushu is set to start on December 7, while wrestling starts on December 9.
Philippine wushu team members flying today are Divine Wally, Jessie Aligaga, Daniel Parantac, Jessie Aligaga, Wvita Zamora, Dembert Arcita, and Francisco Solis.
Flag-bearer Jason Balabal are among those fly today, along with fellow wrestlers Margarito Angana, Alvin Lobrequito, Jhonny Morete, Joseph Angana, and Noel Norada.
Philippine sailing team who will start their campaign on December 12 are also flying to Singapore today en route to Yangon. Athletes fly today include Renz Amboy, Alaiza Mae Belmonte, Ridgely Balladres, Richly Magsanay, Rubin Cruz, and Geylord Coveta.
Philippine delegation chef-de-mission Jeff Tamayo encouraged the Filipino athletes to do their best and give their best shot for the country.
“We really have to come up with our best effort. We may not win it all, but at least we did our best,” Tamayo said.
Leaving tomorrow are members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams together with athletes from boxing, women’s football and canoe kayak.
