Boxer Dennis Galvan advance to SEA Games semi

Dennis_Galvan_SEA_Games_2013With the first day of SEA Games boxing events kicking of yesterday, Dennis Galvan hurdled his quarterfinal bout and advance to the semifinal round in the 27th Southeast Asian Games Sunday afternoon at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex,
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

Entered in the men’s 64kg class, Galvan out powered Ratha Svay of Lao, beating the Laosian 3-0 on his way to the semifinal round.

Galvan will join seven other Filipino boxers who advance automatically to the semifinal round, after being drawn with a bye in their first round matches.

Boxers who luckily drawn a bye in their first round matches are women boxers Nesthy Petecio (57kg), Josie Gabuco (48kg), Maricris Igam (51kg) and Irish Magno (54kg); and men’s boxers Rey Saludar (52kg), Mario Fernandez (56kg) and Wilfredo Lopez (75kg). All seven boxers along with Galvan who just won his bout yesterday are now assured of bronze medals.

In today’s action women boxer Nesthy Petecio faces Thailand’s Tassamalee Thongjan in the semifinal bout for the women’s 57kg category. A win in today’s match advances to the gold medal bout.

Junel Cantancio (60kg) and Mark Anthony Barriga (49kg) are set to climbed the ring on Tuesday.
