Philippines top badminton doubles players, Peter Gabriel Magnaye and Paul Jefferson Vivas, bowed-out at the men’s badminton doubles in the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Wunna Theikdi Stadium Indoor Stadium, Naypritaw, Myanmar.
Gabriel and Vivas faced the doubles pair from Malaysia, Shem Goh and Kok Siang Teo, in the first round of competitions at the men’s doubles.
The Malaysian pair took only 25 minutes to win the match in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-19, barring the Filipino duo to advance to the quarterfinal round.
It was a brief SEA Games stint for the Filipino pair as they were only entered in the men’s doubles event.
Both Magnaye and Vivas are the only badminton athletes in this year’s edition of the SEA Games.
Although badminton has become one of the mot popular and most played sports in Philippines for many years now, it will still take some time for our athletes to be much more competitive in SEAG level where most of the world’s top badminton players come from.
