A one-two finish and an all Filipino show-down for the gold medal in the men’s 10-ball billiards event was witnessed Wednesday evening in the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, Naypyitaw, Myanmar.
Dennis Orcollo and Carlo Biado, avenge their loss in the men’s 9-ball billiards event, and both advance to the finals of the men’s 10-ball event.
Orcollo had to beat Vietnam’s Anh Tuang Nugyen (9-3) in the semifinals, while Biado easily advanced to the finals after beating another Vietnamese Thanh Kien Dang in the semifinals, 9-2.
The fight for gold was quite close, where Orcollo clinched the first gold medal in the Philippines’ billiards and snooker team after beating Biado, 9-7.
Biado settled for the men’s 10-ball silver medal.
Today being the last day of the billiards and snooker event, the Philippine team has so far won 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The other silver medal winner is Rubilen Amit who lost to Angeline Magdalena Ticoalu of Indonesia in the finals of the women’s 9-ball event, with a scoreline of 7-2. Ticoalu is the same cue artist who beat Iris Ranola in the quarterfinals of the said vent.
Both Amit and Ranola are seeing action in the quarterfinal round of the women’s 10-ball event today, with Amit facing Myanmar’s Nywe Nywe Hlaing in the quarterfinal round, while Ranola also faces another Burmese, Thandar Maung, in the quarterfinal round. Quarterfinal action starts at 10:00am today, while semifinals and final are slated at 13:00pm and 16:00pm respectively.
The two bronze medals of the billiards and snooker team were delivered by Efren Bata Reyes and Francisco delos Reyes in both won in the Men’s 1 Cushion Carom Singles event.
