The young equestrian from the Philippines failed to deliver a single medal at the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Naypyitaw, Myanmar.
Entered in the individual show jumping event, Diego Virata and Carmella Lastrella managed to hurdle their qualifying rounds, while Andreay Belovsky failed to make the cut.
Lastrella placed 4th after two rounds of competitions in the qualifying round, with a total of only 4 penalties; while Diego placed 6th with 8 penalties.
Into the final rounds of the competition, twenty year-old Virata topped the round 1 of the final competition, delivering a perfect routine with zero penalties, along with Janine Kho of Singapore and Jenry Palandeng of Indonesia.
Lastrella on the other hand had 13 penalties to rank 13th among the pack of 14 equestrienes.
Poised to win a medal for the Philippines, Virata failed to handle the pressure and crumbled in round two with 11 penalties, ending his SEA Games campaign ranked 8th with 11 total penalties.
Lastrella had 8 penalties in round two, increasing her total penalties to 21 to finish 13th.
All three were products of the Equestrian Association of the Philippines (EAP) youth program.
EAP corporate secretary Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski said that they should have chosen four athletes to complete a line-up for the team composition, but only three passed the criteria set by the Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission.
