The unheralded sepak takraw bets is Philippines’ last hope to win the 30th gold medal in the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
After Philippines finished all actions yesterday with 29 gold, 34 silver and 37 bronze medals, the last Filipinos to take the cudgel of delivering Philippines last gold is the sepak takraw’s men’s doubles regu team.
Jason Huerte, Rheyjey Ortouste and Emmanuel Escote have advanced to the semifinal round today after beating Singapore and Cambodia in yesterday’s preliminary actions.
They will face Lao in today’s semifinals with hope of making it to the finals.
The trio came fresh from winning the silver medal in the men’s regu team event in the prestigious King’s Cup World Championships, the world championship event of sepak-takraw held in Thailand.
They were also part of the men’s team who won the gold medal along with Ronsited Cabayeron, Rudolph Alvarez, Arnel Isorena, Junmar Aleta, John John Babier, Ediran Resueno, Marbie Quirante, Abdulwasif Dimaporo and Rhenwell Catana.
Team Philippines won a gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in that prestigious meet, but were allowed by POC to only send three athletes to this year’s SEA Games.
