The national sepak-takraw team composed of Emmanuel Escote, Jason Huerte and Rheyjey Ortouste ended Philippines’ campaign today at the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
The trio advance to the men’s doubles regu semifinals yesterday after they have beaten Cambodia and Singapore in the preliminary round.
The team then faced Lao in a very close semifinal match today.
Philippine sepak-takraw team composed of veterans, Escote and Huerte, and Palarong Pambansa standout, Ortouste, started slowly in the first set bowing to the Laosian 11-21.
The Filipinos then fought back in the second set winning the set 21-19.
In the deciding set, team Philippines fought tooth and nails and were neck to neck with the Laosians up to the last rounds of the game.
But the Laosian proved more consistent and focused and eventually advanced to the finals by taking the third set 22-20, relegating the Filipinos to bronze medal.
The sepak takraw team duplicated their bronze medal win last 2011 SEA Games.
