Philippines beats Singapore in 2014 Federation Cup opening


Team Philippines is off to a good start as our lady netters blank Singapore in their opening games at the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II Federation Cup 2014 at the National Tennis Centre of Astana, Kazakhstan yesterday.

Playing in Group B, against Singapore and Sri Lanka, the Filipina netters opened their Federation Cup 2014 campaign against Singapore.

Anna Clarice Patrimonio over-powered Singapore’s Geraldine Ang in the first game, beating the Singapore in two straight sets, 6-3 6-0.

Philippines’ top lady netter, Marian Jade Capadocia then faced Singapore’s Rheeya Doshi in the second game of the day, also defeating Doshi in straight sets, 6-4 6-1.

Patrimonio and Capadocia then teamed-up for the doubles game, and again clobbered the Singaporean pair of Ang and Doshi 6-1 6-1

With the victory, they all need to win against Sri-Lanka, who was beaten by Singapore today, 2-1, to advance to the the play-off and have the chance to advance to the Asia/Oceania Group I in 2015.

Philippines is set to play the Sri-Lankans tomorrow, February 6, 2013.

Winner of Group B will face the winner of Group C which is composed of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Iraq
