Filipino youth swimmers, Regina Maria Paz Castrillo, Raissa Regatta Gavino and Sacho Ilustre showed great from as early as the first month of the year as they erased their junior Philippine national records during their participation at the 2013 Batang Pinoy National Championships and Palarong Pambansa NCR Qualifying meets.
Erin Castrillo set two new Junior Records at the 2013 Batang Pinoy National Championship in Bacolod end of January.
She re-set her 100m Butterfly Jr. 13 & Under Record of 1:06.15 to 1:05.59; and at the same time re-set her 400m Individual Medley Jr. 13 & Under record to 5:21.73, erasing her previous record of 5:26.27 set last Speedo LC National Swimming Championship last year.
Rain Gavino was also triumphant in re-setting her 50m Breaststroke Jr. 13 & Under national record at the first day of Batang Pinoy competitions, winning the event with a new national junior record time of 35.69 – erasing her previous record of 35.85, set at the Batang Pinoy Luzon Qualifying meet last year.
Sacho Ilustre on the other hand was the first Filipino swimmer to break a national record this year.
At the Palarong Pambansa NCR qualifying meet last January 24, he won the gold medal of the 200m Butterfly secondary event in a record breaking fashion.
Ilustre clocked a new 200m Butterfly Jr. 14-15 national record of 2:11.21, erasing his previous record of 2:11.25, set at the Speedo LC National Championship last year.
All three swimmers will most likely be included in the Philippine team who will see action at the 8th AASF Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in India this May, and at the 38th SEA Age Group Swimming Championship in Singapore this June.
