Philippines advance to 2014 Federation Cup play-off


Philippine lady netters blanked Sri-Lanka today to top the Group B of the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II Federation Cup 2014 group round at the National Tennis Centre of Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Playing the first match of the day against the Sri-Lankans is Anna Clarice Patrimonio, who easily beat Medhira Samarasinghe in straight sets, 6-1 6-0.

Marian Jade Capadocia then faced Sri Lanka’s Nethmi Himashi Waduge in the second match of the game, and also over-powered Waduge in two sets, 6-3 6-0.

Patrimonio and Capadocia then paired for the doubles match against Kemalie Herath and Amreetha Muttiah, for the third and final game.

The Filipino pair took little time, and demolished the Sri Lankan pairs in straight sets, 6-1 6-1.

Team Philippines topped Group B, after beating both Singapore and Sri Lanka, and advanced to the play-off round against Turkmenista, who topped the Group C.

Group A winner, Hong Kong will play against New Zealand, the Group D winner, for the other play-off game.

Winners for both play-off games will face each other on Saturday to determine which country advance to the Asia/Oceania Group I in 2015 Federation Cup.
