In what’s suppose to be a fairy-tale run for Team Philippines at the Federation Cup 2014, the Filipina netters crumbled at the final play-off of the Group II Asia/Oceania final play-off yesterday in Astana, Kazakhstan yesterday after Hong Kong crashed Philippines in two straight games.
Anna Clarice Patrimonio played the first game against Hong Kong’s Eudice Chong.
Patrimonio gave Chong a good fight at the first set, but succumbed to the pressure and lost the set 4-6.
In the second set, Chong gave her all and spent little time demolishing Patrimonio 6-1 to give Hong Kong it’s first win in the final play-off.
Hoping to equalize, Marian Jade Capadocia then played against Hong Kong’s Ling Zhang for the second game, but Zhang proved more experienced and crashed Capadocia in straight sets, 6-1 6-4.
With Hong Kong’s two straight wins, they have advanced to the Group I of the Asia / Oceania in the Federation Cup 2015.
Philippines who whon all their games en route to the Asia/Oceania Group II final play-off will still remain in the Group II in the 2015 edition of Federation Cup.
Chinese Taipei will join Philippines in the Group II in 2015 after they lost their Group I Asia/Oceania relegation play-off against Indonesia.
