With barely seven months to go, Team Philippines still has to pick the athletes who will represent the country in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea slated on September 19 to October 4, 2014.
Filipino athletes who are confirmed to be part of the team are the 15-member team of Gilas Pilipinas, as well as the 7 members of the Philippine Volcanoes.
Olympian BMX racer Daniel Caluag is also a sure shoo-in in the team, as well as world no. 21 in men’s tennis doubles, Treat Huey, and partner Ruben Gonzales.
The Blu Girls who placed fourth in the Asian Softball Championship last year will also be mostly likely included in the team.
Asian Games Task Force member Tomas Carrasco Jr. said that 19 NSAs will be represented in the Asian Games Philippines team.
As of this week Cycling has submitted names of 12 athletes, 12 for taekwondo (6 men and 6 women), 12 for bowling (6 men and 6 women), 12 for karatedo (6 men and 6 women), and 10 for wushu (taolu and sanda)
Boxing, soft tennis and lawn tennis have submitted 8 names of athletes each.
Golf has submitted 7 names of athletes (4 men and 3 women), 6 for judo, 4 for triathlon and 2 for weightlifting.
The task force is still waiting for the list of the athletes from athletics, swimming, rowing and wrestling.
A total of 149 athletes so far, while waiting for the recommended list from other NSAs.
