Philippine netter, Katharina Lehnert, is set to compete at the Helsingborg ITF Women’s tournament in Sweden from February 17 to 23.
Current ranks 522nd in the world, Lehnert is seeded 7 in the women’s singles, but is not entered in the women’s doubles.
She is set to meet Germany’s Kim-Alice Grajdek in the first round. Grajdek ranks 637 in the world.
If she advances to the second round, she will either face Denmark’s Karen Barbat (604th) or Sweden’s Anette Munozova (892nd)
This is Lehnert’s first participation in the ITF women’s tournament this year since she was suffering from knee and back injury early this year, the reason being why she was not able to represent Philippines in the Federation Cup this month.
Lehnert’s participation in the ITF tournaments is made possible by NewYorker Apparel, Wilson and Cebuana Lhuillier.
“I was happy when Katharina decided to play for the Philippines, bringing her extensive professional experience to our shores. She serves as an inspiration to young tennis players in the country to achieve more and aim to play in the professional leagues,” said Cebuana Lhuillier president/CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, the current chairman of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta).
Lehnert joins Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales as the Cebuana Lhuillier Sports Ambassadors.
She first represented Philippines at the Southeast Asian Tennis Championships in Bangkok last year where she won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles, teaming up with Treat Huey.
Lehnert is also set to compete in Bron ITF Women’s tournament in France next week where is currently seeded 12th.
Another Filipina netter, Maika Jae Tanpoco is also seeing action at the Nonthaburi ITF Women’s tournament where she made it among the qualifiers of the tournament. She still has to play in the qualifying games in order to enter the main draw of the Nonthaburi Tournament.
