SEA Games 2013 gold medalists, Jesson Ramil Cid, Eric Shauwn Cray and Henry Dagmil sizzle in the 6th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Hangzhou, China from February 15-16, 2014.
Although none of them won a medal of any colors at the Asian meet, Cid registered his personal best in the heptathlon event, while Cray and Dagmil registered new indoor national records in the 60m run and long jump events respectively.
Cid placed 6th in the men’s hepatathlon event with 4565 points, his personal best. Taking the gold was Dmitriy Karpov of Kazakhstan with 5752, while Akihiko Nakamura of Japan won the silver with 5693 points. Bronze medalist in men’s heptathlon was Leonid Andreyev of Uzbekistan with 5561 points.
Cray topped the heat 2 of the 60m run, with a time of 6.77 seconds, a new national record. He placed fifth in the pool of 10 athletes, and advanced to the Race B Finals.
In the finals, he again topped the B Finals with a another new national record time of 6.75 seconds, enough to place 5th in the overall ranking.
Samuel Francis and Femi Ogunode of Qatar won the gold and silver in the 60m run event with a time of 6.61 and 6.62 seconds. Iran’s Reza Ghasemi took the bronze medal with 6.68 seconds.
Dagmil on the other hand placed 6th in a pool of 9 athletes in the men’s long jump event, with a new national record leap of 7.43 meters.
Kuwait’s Saleh Abdelaziz Al-Haddad of Kuwat won the gold medal with a leap of 7.94 meters. China’s Jie Lei and Zhang Yaoguang won the silver and bronze medals with leap of 7.80 and 7.76 meters respectively.
