Three taekwondo jins are recommended to join the Gilas Pilipinas, Rugby Sevens and Blu Girls in representing the country in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea.
The three include 2010 Asian Games bronze medalist and Myanmar SEA Games gold medalist Kristie Elaine Alora, Jade Zafra and Kristopher Robert Uy. Their names have been submitted by the Philippine Taekwondo Association for the September to October tournament.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) hopes to have a complete line-up, six women and six men, in the prestigious meet since they have been eyeing to deliver a gold medal from this Asian sporting event.
“All three fall under the criteria set by the POC-PSC Asian Games task force, and second because, undoubtedly, they are the best fighters under the national training pool,” said PTA national training director Noel Veneracion along with coach Dindo Simpao who is a member of the national coaching staff.
Alora wasa gold medalist in the women’s 73 kilogram division in Myanmar SEA Games, while Zafra and Uy were also gold medalists in Myanmar. Zafra won was victorious in women’s 57 kilogram, while Uy topped the men’s over 87 kilogram.
PTA hopes to surpass the silver medal finish of Tshomlee Go and Toni Rivero at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha Qatar.
