Veteran age-group swimmer, Roxanne Ashley Yu, delivers another sterling performance on day three of competitions at the 45th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championship in Singapore Sports School, Singapore.
Sixteen year-old Yu beat another YOG qualifying time, as she surpassed the 100m girls backstroke 2014 Youth Olympic Games qualifying standard B time of 1:06.92, clocking 1:06.35 in the morning preliminaries.
Her preliminary time put her on the 5th place among 68 swimmers in the 100m girls backstroke event, but she was not able to advance to the evening finals since Japanese swimmers placed 1st and 2nd in the said event. Only top two foreign swimmers are allowed to advance to the evening finals in this swimming championship, a qualifying meet for the 2014 YOG.
After three days of competition, Yu has already surpassed two qualifying standard B times – 50m and 100m backstroke event, while fellow British International School of Phuket scholar, Jethro Roberts Chua, yesterday surpassed the qualifying standard B time for the boys 200m freestyle event.
On the other hand, UAAP Season 75 and 76 Most Valuable Player, Gerard Christoffe Reyes of Ateneo pulled-off an evening finals appearance at the 18 years old and over age bracket of the 100m backstroke event, after clocking 1:03.41 in the morning preliminaries where he ranked 8th in his age bracket.
Reyes clocked 1:03.87 to rank 7th in the evening finals.
