Day 4 of competition at the 45th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championship has showcased sterling performances from our Filipino youth swimmers, resulting to a silver and bronze medal finish from Raissa Regatta Gavino and Roxanne Ashley Yu.
Gavino, who was seeded 3rd in the 14-15 girls 50m breaststroke finals, powered her way in the last 25 meters of the race to finish second with a new Philippine national junior record time of 35.43 seconds. Her silver medal time erased the 10 year-old record of Chrizel Lagunday (35.56) registered way back in April 2004.
The thirteen year-old pride of Ayala Harpoons Swim Club swimmer (she’s turning 14 years old this July) is also the current Philippine junior national record holder of the 50m breaststroke in the 13 and under age category.
Roxanne Ashley Yu on the other hand clinched her third YOG qualifying time mark after clocking 2:21.49 in the 200m backstroke event in the morning preliminary, surpassing the 2:24.66 YOG qualifying standard B time.
She then advanced to the evening finals and went to win the bronze medal of the said event.
Other swimmer who was able to advance to the evening finals in day 4 of the competition is Gerard Christoffe Reyes who registered a preliminary time of 2:18.78 in the 200m backstroke event. He finished 8th in the evening finals.
