PH wushu youth squad cops 3 medals in world junior championship

The national junior wushu team bagged two silver and one bronze medals in the prestigious 5th World Junior Wushu Championships held at the Kepez Belediyesi Kapali Spor Salonu in Antalya, Turkey.

Taolu specialists Hazel Dalisay and Faith Liana Andaya secured one silver each in the girls’ Group C category of the tournament which drew more than 500 athletes from some 80 countries.

Dalisay wound up second in the qiangshu (spear form) event dominated by Xin Peng Isabelle Chua of Singapore while Andaya placed second in the jianshu (sword form) category behind gold medalist Qi Shou of China. American Annie Lee Tang (qiangshu) and Pu Yang Lau of Hong Kong (jianshu) settled for bronze.

Asian Junior Wushu Championship taolu (form) gold medalist Johnzenth Gajo added one bronze in the boys’ Group C changquan (long fist) class. Cheuk Hang Lao of Hong Kong topped the event followed by silver winner Taha Badae Gavarte of Iran.

The other members of the team who failed to make it to the podium were Agatha Brystenzen Wong, Vanessa Jo Chan, Alieson Ken Omengan, Joel Casem, Christian Lapitan and Dave Dagala.

The Philippine Wushu Federation is gearing up for four more big tournaments—the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in August in Nanjing, China, the 2014 Asian Games in September in Incheon, South Korea, the 6th World Traditional Championship in October in China and the 1st World Taijiquan Championship in November also in China.
