Power Pinays fall to China at Asia Women’s Club Volleyball Championship


The PLDT Home TVolution Power Pinays failed to follow-up their opening day win against India after faltering against a superior Chinese crew in the Princess Cup-Chang Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Friday, April 18 in Nakhonpathom, Thailand.

The mighty East Asian side turned back their Southeast Asian counterparts, sending the Power Pinays back to the ground with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 beating.

Backed by Bohai Bank-Tianjin, China bombarded the Power Pinays right off the bat, taking away the Philippines’ first ball with razor-sharp services that rattled the Philippines’ floor defense.

Wunderkind Jaja Santiago – who exploded for 20 points in their win against India – was checked this time, struggling to find her rhythm as China extended the lead to two sets.

In the third set, stellar showing from Honey Royce Tubino and Angeli Tabaquero pulled the nationals within 12-14, but their taller and more experienced foes relied on their offense of fend off the stubborn squad.
