It’s Final! The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has officially appointed Philippines to be the host of the prestigious Asian U23 Women’s Volleyball Championship in May 2015.
AVC Development Chairman Ramon “Tatz” Suzara said that it has been confirmed that Philippines will be hosting the prestigious tournament for the best spikers in the Asian region who are aged 23 and under. And this is the first time for the country to host the awaited event in Asia.
China’s Zhu Ting and Japan’s Haruka Miyashita are expected to strut their wares in the said tournament. These two are now being eyed by their respective country to be promoted to the elite team of senior players.
Thailand and Vietnam are also expected to join the said event.
“One positive thing of hosting the tournament is that we get to see and play with the possible teams who we will be playing with in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore”, said Suzara.
He added that this could also be a qualifying event for team Philippines for next year’s SEA Games.
Suzara stressed that hosting this biennial meet is AVC’s way of helping the country bring back the prestige of volleyball among Filipino people, and hopefully bring back the glory days where Philippines used to be among the country to beat in the Southeast Asia region and Asia.
Some of the players that are being eyed to be part of the team are Alyssa Valdez, Ara Galang, Myla Pablo, Shiela Pineda, Carmina Aganon, EJ Laure, Bernadette Pons, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aiko Urdas, Amy Ahomiro, Michelle Morente, Honey Royce Tubino, Dindin Santiago, Jaja Santiago, Aby Maraño, Marivic Meneses, Mika Reyes, Jia Morado, Kim Fajardo, Ivy Perez, Yna Papa, Jen Reyes, Jheck Dionela, Denden Lazaro and Pia Gaiser.
