Swimmer Kirsten Chloe Daos breaches YOG qualifying “A” standard time


Philippine national youth swimmer Kirsten Chloe Daos breached the 2nd Youth Olympic Games qualifying “A” standard time of the Girls 200m Butterfly event last weekend at the 38th Southeast Asian Games Age Group Swimming Championship which was a qualifying event for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games.

Fourteen year-old Daos swam her way to a fourth place finish in the 200m Butterfly Girls 14-15 age group, with a much improved time of 2:22.37

Her new best time has breached the 2:24.75 qualifying “A” standard time of the prestigious Olympic Games for the youth.

Earlier this March, Daos has already clocked a YOG “B” standard time in the said event at the 45th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championship where she finished with a time of 2:25.43

Her QTA performance at the recently concluded SEA Age Group in Singapore has most likely secured her a ticket to the Philippine team who will be seeing action in Nanjing this August.

Philippines is allowed to have a maximum of four swimmers (2 male and 2 female) who can join the 2nd YOG, depending on their qualifying status.

So far, only Kirsten Chloe Daos and Roxanne Ashley Yu have registered “A” qualifying standard times in the distaff side, while Jethro Roberts Chua is the only male junior swimmer who has registered a “B” qualifying standard time.

Yu has achieved a QTA in the girls 200m Backstroke, while QTBs in both 50m and 100m Backstroke events.

Daos on the other hand has secured a QTA in the 200m Butterfly, while Chua secured a QTB in the Boys 200m Freestyle event.

By June 20, FINA, the world governing body of swimming, will confirm the official list of YOG qualifiers / participating swimmers, up to the total number of 140 boys and 140 girls, in accordance to the FINA Qualifying Standard Times and FINA Points Table.
