Tomorrow, forty-six of the world’s most desirable men will take center stage at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torbay, England to vie for the coveted Mr. World title in the 8th edition of the pageant initiated in 1996 by the Miss World Organization.
Mr. Philippines World, John De Lara Spainhour, a Filipino-American model who trained as a scout sniper for the US Marine Corps (USMC) is Philippines representative to the pageant.
John came to the Philippines in 2011 after his stint in the military (he was assigned in Iraq for several years) He tried modeling in the country and has since been featured in dozens of print ads and tv commercials. Everybody won’t be surprised if he will win the Mr. World Search given his looks, physique, intellect and self discipline!
John turned 27 last week and did well in the sports and extreme sports challenges. He was a top 10 finalist at the extreme sports event won by Mr. Bahamas. He was also a member of the Blue Team that won the sailing event.
Born in Jefferson, North Carolina to an American father and a Filipino mother (the former Joy de Lara from Leyte), John left for England last May 30, less than 24 hours after he was proclaimed as Mr. World Philippines 2014 in a special selection process held at Glorietta 5 in Makati City.
“To be the Philippine delegate to Mr. World is a new experience for me and I am challenging myself to be a better person,” John said before leaving for England. He admits to feeling a little pressure, not only because of Megan Young’s historic feat as the first Filipina Miss World but also by Andrew Wolff’s finish. “Andrew raised the bar pretty high for me, placing second to Mr. World 2012 so I guess I have a lot to live up to,” he confessed.
The 6’1” hunk has the second most number of likes for the multimedia challenge. As one of Manila’s top models, John should breeze through the style & fashion event going into Sunday’s finals to be hosted by our very own Miss World Megan Young. “I am very confident that John will stand out in Mr. World 2014,” said Miss World and Mr. World national director Cory Quirino. “Andrew Wolff of the Philippine Volcanoes placed second in 2012 and Megan Young made history as the first Filipina Miss World last year. I guess it’s about time for the Philippines to finally win the Mr. World title.”
Tasked to choose this year’s Mr. World are the Chairman of the Judging Panel Julia Morley, Musical Director Mike Dixon, Choreographer & Stage Director Donna Derby, Hair, Make-Up and Stylist expert Andrew Minarik, reigning Mr World Francisco Escobar, Miss World 1981 Pilín León and Miss World Oceania Erin Holland.
