Full results of the 38th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship held last June 6-8 in Singapore are now included in the 2014 Philippine Swimming National Ranking.
Most notable performances are the record breaking swims of Raissa Regatta “Raine” Gavino and Kirsten Chloe Daos.
On day one of the championship, Raine swam her way to a silver medal finish in the 50m Breaststroke Girls 14-15 event in a record breaking fashion. Her silver medal time of 34.36 has trimmed her previous national junior record of 35.43 by more than a second.
What’s also inspiring in Raine’s new 14-15 girls junior record is that her new best time is just few milliseconds away from breaking the 50m Breaststroke Philippine National record of 34.10 set by Fil-Am Jaclyn Pangilinan in August 2003 at the NCSA Junior Swimming Championship in USA.
Although Jaclyn’s national record was broken by Denjylie Cordero in last year’s UAAP Swimming Championship, nothing has been confirmed yet if her 34.01 clocking is the new PH national record. But still, Raine’s 34.36 junior national record is also just a few milliseconds away from Denjylie’s time.
Kirsten Chloe Daos on the other hand also clocked a new 100m Butterfly 14-15 Girls junior national record of 1:05.10, resetting her previous record of 1:05.32 set at last year’s 2nd Asian Youth Games in China.
Moreover, Chloe has successfully clocked a 2014 Youth Olympic Games “A” Qualifying Standard time of 2:22.37 in the 200m Butterfly event, beating the 2:24.75 “A” qualifying time of the 2nd YOG.
This triumph has most likely assured her of joining Roxanne Ashley Yu in the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games this August.
Also successful in the 2014 SEA Age Group Championship are double medalist Roxanne Ashley Yu who won a silver in the 200m Backstroke (2:19.54) and bronze in 100m Backstroke (1:05.28) 16-18 Girls events, and Maurice Sacho Ilustre who won bronze medals in the 200m Freestyle (2:01.68) and 200m Butterfly (2:10.85) 14-15 Boys events.
Miguel Karlo Barlisan and Andrae Miguel Pogiongko contributed a silver medal each in the 100m Freestyle (54.75) and 400m Individual Medley (4:51.49) 14-15 Boys events respectively.
SEA Age Group debutante, Phillip Joaquin Santos, has also won a bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly 13 and Under Boys event with his time of 2:20.85
With the addition of the 38th SEA AG results in the Philippine national ranking, PinoyHeadline dot com has also now included in the ranking the TOP 5 results of this year’s SEA Age Group Swimming Championship, as well as the TOP 3 Filipino swimmers of each respective event and age bracket to properly monitor who among our local swimmers are possible candidates for the 39th SEA Age Group Swimming Championship next year.
Again, please note that the age of reckoning of next year’s SEA Age Group Swimming Championship is December 31, 2015. So please feel free to correct the “AGE” of the swimmers in the ranking for proper bracketing and monitoring of the swimmers performances leading to next year’s age group championship.
