The Philippine Women’s Softball team, widely known as Blu Girls, are scheduled to fly to USA today to compete at the prestigious World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, California, USA from July 7-13, 2014
The team headed by Ismael Voloso III is composed of Alexandra Louise Zuluaga, Arianne Valestero, Angelie Ursabia, Lorna Adorable, Kriska Piad, Veronica Belleza, Elma Parohinog, Isabella Ann Mendoza, Luzviminda Embudo, Marlyn Francisco, Whell Ghene Camral, Annalie Benjamen, Rizza Bernardino, Jullian Tanaka and Francesca Altomonte.
They will be joined by new Fil-Am recruits Garie Blando, Francesca Foti, Alleah Laxamana and Jaexenne Balilea of University of Nevada Las Vegas, Leia Ruiz of USC Berkley, Dani Gilmore of Oregon State University, and Gabrielle Rodas of California State University Fullerton.
Coach Venerando Dizer is the head coach of the team, and he is assisted by other coaching staff Ronelon Pagkaliwagan, Ana Maria Santiago and Apolonio Rosales.
The week-long World Cup of Softball is participated by 8 countries which include USA, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Philippines.
The girls yesterday attended a briefing and orientation condcuted by ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier and Secretary-General Danny Francisco at the Consulate Office of the Consul-General of San Marino in Makati, City.
Reminders and rules were given to the team, as well as their mission, vision, and values to strive for their best to grab the victory in the upcoming world cup, then snatch the gold in the Asian Games in September.
