Celdon Arellano off to Nanjing YOG
Shooter Celdon Jude Arellano has officially been named to the Philippine team bound to compete at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, from Aug. 14 to 28.
This news was confirmed by Philippine Olympic Committee chair Tom Carrasco after the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) has submitted Arellano’s name to the International Shooting Sport Federation as the Philippines’ bet in Nanjing based on the universality scheme required by the International Olympic Committee.
The 2013 Asian Youth Games veteran Arellano was awarded with a YOG berth, based on universality, by the PNSA after his impressive performance in the men’s 10-meter air rifle event at the World Shootfest in Germany and China where he successfully registered the minimum qualifying score of 584 in both tournaments.
His inclusion has brought the number of Filipinos seeing action at the 2nd edition of the YOG to seven.
He now joins archers Luis Gabriel Moreno and Bianca Cristina Gotuaco, runner Zion Corrales-Nelson, artistic gymnast Ava Loren Verdeflor, swimmer Roxanne Ashley Yu and triathlete Victorija Evania Deldio in donning the Philippine colors in Nanjing this August.
Philippine chef de mission Jonne Go said the qualifiers are now part of the Olympic Solidarity program where they will receive $500 a month in training allowances.
