Richard Gomez, Chief de Mission 4th Asian Beach Games
Philippine Amateur Fencing Association (PAFA) president, Richard Gomez, has been officially appointed as the chief de mission of Team Philippines seeing action at the 4th Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand from November 14-23 this year.
“Richard Gomez is not only the fencing president, he was also named chief de mission to the Asian Beach Games,” said POC first vice president Joey Romasanta at the Philippine Olympic Committee assembly where Gomez was officially introduced as the new PAFA President.
Romasanta and Gomez went to Phuket last June to formally introduce Gomez as Philippines’ chief de mission to the beach games organizers.
Gomez, who have represented Philippines in fencing, shooting, rowing and indoor volleyball, has a tough challenge ahead, and that is to deliver Philippines’ first gold medal in the Asian Beach Games.
Since the inaugural Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia in 2008, Team Philippines has only delivered 4 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Philippines won 2 silver and 8 bronze in 2008, then went home without a single medal in 2010, and again made our presence felt in the medal table in 2012 after winning 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
This year, Team Philippines hopes to surpass the previous performance and finally win our first gold medal in the prestigious biennial beach games in Asia.
