Coach Chot Reyes announces Gilas Pilipinas’ Asian Games line-up


On Wednesday morning, coach Chot Reyes announced the official 12-man line-up of Gilas Pilipinas who will be seeing action at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea this September 19 to October 4, 2014.

The line-up include:

– Andray Blatche
– Gabe Norwood
– Gary David
– Japeth Aguilar
– Jared Dillinger
– Jayson Castro
– Jeff Chan
– June Mar Fajardo
– LA Tenorio
– Marc Pingris
– Paul Lee
– Ranidel De Ocampo

Naturalized NBA player Blatche and FIBA Asia Championship All-Star Five member Castro head the Gilas Pilipinas who targets to bring home the Asian Games gold medal the country last won in 1962, at the 4th Asian Games in Jakarta Indonesia.

The Philippine men’s basketball team last won an Asian Games medal in 1998, after beating Kazakhstan (73-68) for the bronze; while the team has last won an Asian Games silver medal in 1990, after bowing to China (90–74) in the fight for gold.

China has dominated the past 9 editions in the Asian Games, winning 7 Asian Games gold medals, with South Korea snatching only 2 gold medals (1982 and 2002).

The Gilas players are currently in Europe as part of their preparations for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain, set to begin on August 30.
