Daniel Parantac bags Philippines first medal in 17th Asian Games

Philippine wushu national mainstay, Daniel Parantac, bagged Philippines’ first medal in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea.

SEA Games gold medalist Parantac placed second in the Men’s Taijiquan & Taijijian All-Round wushu event to win the silver medal, behind China’s Zhouli Chen who won the gold.

The win may not come as a surprise to Parantac who has worked really hard to prepare for this event, but sports enthusiasts definitely did not expect the win.

Parantac actually ranked only 8th in the morning’s Taijijian event with 9.58 points.

Amid lowly placement in his morning Taijijian routine, Parantac came strong in the afternoon event where he flawlessly executed his Taijiquan routine that got the nod of the judges.

He scored 9.68 points for his Taijiquan routine, and placed 2nd in the said event.

With a total score of 19.26, Parantac secured the silver medal of the Men’s Taijiquan & Taijijian All-Round, edging the bronze medalist Thanh Tung Nguyen of Vietnam by mere 0.02 points (19.24)

Gold medalist Zhouli Chen scored a combined points of 19.55.
