No PH women’s beach volleyball team in Phuket Asian Beach Games

Only the men’s beach volleyball will be represented by Team Philippines at the 4th Asian Beach Games after the women’s team finally decided to pull out from the November 14-23 game in Phuket, Thailand.

The pair of Jade Picaldo and Edward Ybanez, as well as the pair of Edward Bonono and Jouie Tipgos will represent Team Philippines in the biennial game.

Twin towers Dindin and Jaja Santiago, and Philippine Army’s Jovelyn Gonzaga and Nerissa Bautista, who were approached by the task force to represent the country in Phuket decided not to push through because of their commitment with the ongoing Shakey’s V League and Philippine Super Liga, so as the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Championship which is slated to open on November 22.

It was also known that the funding of their stint was also a problem since the participation of Team Philippines in the 4th edition of the Asian Beach Games is not financially supported by Philippine Sports commission (PSC).

Amid the absence of our women’s beach volleyball team, chef de mission Richard Gomez still hopes that Philippines will finally deliver our first Asian Beach Games gold medal in Phuket this year.
