Caluag and Moreno pushed for an IOC grant

BMX cyclist Daniel Caluag, the country’s lone gold medal winner in the Incheon Asian Games, and archer Gabriel Moreno, who shared a gold in the 2nd Youth Olympics, will be recommended by the Philippine Olympic Committee to receive a training stipend under the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) solidarity program.

An expanded list is currently being prepared by the POC but the names, other than Caluag and Moreno, were not yet available.

“The Olympic solidarity and the respective international federations will evaluate the application,” said POC first vice-president Joey Romasanta yesterday.

There are currently 12 Filipinos in the IOC’s scholarship program and each one has been granted a $500 month allowance to help them qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
