Visayas Leg of 2014 Batang Pinoy now up in the PH Swim Ranking

Results of the 2014 Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg Swimming Championship held last October 22-24 in Kalibo, Aklan have been added in the 2014 Philippine Swimming National Ranking.

Notable swimmers in the said meet who have made an impact in the national ranking are 13 & Under swimmers Val Andre Chiu and Raven Faith Alcoseba.

Ateneo de Cebu’s Val Adre Chiu stamped his class in the 50m Freestyle event where he has become the only male 13 & Under swimmer to have hit the 26-second-mark this year after clocking 26.78 in the Visayas leg.

The thirteen year-old swimmer reclaimed the top spot in the 13 & Under 50m Freesyle Ranking, and is now the third fastest swimmer in the 50m Free event for next year’s 14-15 Boys age bracket.

His 26.78 clocking has also surpassed the 27.09 “AAA” Motivational Time for 13-14 Boys this year (2014) which gives him an outright slot in the Philippine Team for SEA AG next year in Malaysia, if PSI won’t be changing their SEA AG qualifying criteria in forming the 2015 PH Team.

This year, PSI gave automatic SEA AG Philippine Team slots to swimmers who hit the QTA and QTB marks. PSI used the 2013 Bronze Medal time as the QTA, while the “AAA” 2013 Motivational Time was used as QTB. Universality places were also given to swimmers who have achieved at least three 2013 “AA” Motivational Times (QTC) and placed at least in the top 2 in their age-bracket in the qualifying meets.

If this criteria won’t be changed next year, looks like Visayas will finally have a swimmer making it to the SEA AG Philippine team after many years.

Apart from the 50m Freestyle event, Chiu has also made it to the 13 & Under breaststroke rankings where he ranks 15th in the 50m Breast (37.50), 8th in the 100m Breast (1:21.24) and improved his 13th place in the 200m Breast to 9th place with a new time of 3:03.00.

Raven Faith Alcoseba on the other hand, again showed her might in the Batang Pinoy Visayas leg, after a sterling performance in the Milo Little Olympics Visayas leg.

Twelve-year-old Alcoseba officially debuts in the Women’s 200m Backstroke 2014 National Ranking in 23rd place with a new best time of 2:38.50. She is the only 12-year-old swimmer who have made it to the elite ranking.

With her new time, she is now the second fastest swimmer for next year’s 13 & Under age-bracket, and is currently 3rd in the 13 & Under national ranking.

She also debuts in the 200m Butterfly 13 & Under ranking on 6th place with her new best time of 2:47.65.

Another Cebu’s pride, Michael Ichiro Kong, has also made it to the elite list of male swimmers in the 200m Backstroke national ranking in 26th place with his time of 2:25.39.

Iloilo City’s Francino Milano Aplaon has also made quite an impression at the BP Visayas leg as he now debuts in the 400m Free, 1500m Free, 200m Butterfly and 400m IM 13 & Under national ranking.

The thirteen year-old ranks 5th in the 13 & Under ranking with his time of 4:52.54, 9th in the 1500m Free (20:03.40), 6th in 200m Butterfly (2:44.66) and 13th in the 400m Individual Medley (5:46.14).

Bohol’s Rian Marco Tirol improved his 50m Breast 13 & Under ranking to 6th place (31.71), while Valerie Mae Estremos has also improved her 14th rank in the 50m Butterfly (13 & Under) to 6th place with her 32.33 clocking.

Other swimmers who clocked times that made it to the junior ranking are John David Villaruz, Clark Jeremiah Lipura and Psalm Daniel Aquino.
