Philippine junior national cue artists Jeffrey Roda and Cheska Centeno triumphed in Shanghai, China as they claimed silver and bronze at the World Junior Pool Championships last weekend.
Fourteen year-old Roda, who placed third at the Asian Junior Pool Championships in Chinese Taipei last August, was a rack away in clinching the junior world championship crown.
With 7-all scoreline, the Palaro champion Roda unluckily scratched in the 15th rack to give China’s Kong De-Jing the opportunity to capitalize his mistake and take the world crown in the Under 17 category.
Centeno on the other started slow in her semifinal match against the 2012 champion Kamila Kohd-Jaeva of Belgium.
The Palaro champion Centeno lagged 3 racks behind Kohd-Jaeva going to the 6th rack (1-4). She failed to launch a come back as Koh-Jaeva took the game, 9-5, to advance to the final round.
Koh-Jaeva later on lost to China’s Liu Yu Chen in the finals, 3-9.
BSCP president Arturo Ilaga was happy with the results of the the two junior cue artists.
“Sa kanilang murang edad ay nakakapaghatid na sila ng karangalan sa bansa. Kaunting pagsasanay pa at exposures, nakikita ko na kaya nilang maging world champions sa hinaharap,” said Ilagan to Pilipino Star Ngayon.
