The Philippine Men’s Softball Team widely known as the Blu Boys earned a semifinal berth at the 14th Asian Men’s Softball Championship / 14th Asian Men’s Championship Qualifier 2015 after their back to back win in yesterday’s opening day at the Kallang Softball Diamond Stadium Walk in Singapore.
The Blu Boys convincingly secured their first win in the championship with a 21-0 butchering against Pakistan in their morning opening game.
Determined to secure their semifinal spot on the day one of the championship, they came back strong came back strong in the afternoon to beat the host country, Singapore, 8-3.
With the back to back win in the opening day, the Blu Boys have already secured a spot in the semifinal round, with three games to go.
The 2015 World Championship qualifier has attracted only six team – Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan and Singapore; and is being played on a single league basis with top four teams advancing to the semifinal round.
After day 1 of action, Philippines and Japan tops the leader board with 2 wins and 0 loss, followed by Indonesia and Singapore with 1 Win and 1 Loss each; and then Brunei and Pakistan with zero win and 2 losses.
The Blu Boys will have a tough day today, facing Indonesia at 10:00am; and then Softball powerhouse Japan at 14:00pm.
Then the Blu Boys will wrap-up their single round robin games on Thursday against Brunei at 10:00am.
Semifinal games are scheduled on Thursday afternoon; while the bronze and gold medal games will be on Saturday, December 20.
Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal teams in the Asian qualifier will win a slot for the World Softball Championship in Canada next year.
