Team Philippines secured three more gold medals in yesterday’s action at the 17th ASEAN University Games in Palembang Indonesia.
Current men’s pole vault Philippine national record holder Ernest Obiena clinched athletics first gold medal at the biennial met as he dominated the field with 5.10m leap.
2015 SEA Games bound Obiena has been consistently breaching the 5 meter mark for the past few months now.
His golden performance at this year’s Asean University games is a big boost for his debut in Singapore SEA Games next year.
Meanwhile, the Philippine swimming team has won another two gold medals in yesterday action, which brings swimming’s medal haul to 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.
With four days more to the closing ceremony, Team Philippines still ranks 5th in the medal tally with 8 Gold, 6 Silvers and 7 Bronze medals.
Thailand is leading the pack with 34 gold medals, followed by host country Indonesia, then Malaysia and Vietnam.
