PH Dragonboat team wins 2 gold medals at 2016 Taiwan International tilt (Video Available)

The Philippines continues to be a powerhouse in international Dragon Boat racing, earning 2 first place finishes at the 2016 Taiwan International Dragon Boat Championships at the Fu Lu River in Lukang, Taiwan, which took place from August 27-29.

The 44 members of the race crew, composed of non-professional athletes, bested over 20 teams from countries such as Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Some teams had multiple nationalities in their roster.

Despite heavy rains, and chilling winds throughout the weekend, the PCKDF Philippine Dragon boat team finished strong, placing in all categories it joined:

-20 Seaters, 200 meters event
Champion: Philippines PCKDF
2nd place: Taiwan, Mr. Canoe
3rd place: Songshan Team

Champion: Philippines PCKDF
2nd place: Taiwan
3rd place: China

Dragon Boat 3-20 Seaters, Mixed Category
Champion: Taiwan: Mr Canoe.
2nd place: Philippines: PCKDF

It took many months for the team, composed mostly of employees working in banking, muti-nationals, IT, BPO and government, as well as entrepreneurs, teachers, students, homemakers and even breast cancer survivors, to achieve this feat.

Another team from the Philippines – the Phyros Dragonboat Team – likewise placed in the competition, finishing 1st in the 200m Mixed 20-man Crew, Minor Finals.
